Hiking the French Alps

Posted on September 2, 2018September 2, 2018 by Ava

When it comes to hiking with my dad, you can usually expect to hike straight up a mountain, and this hike was no different! We started the hike around 10:00 in the morning so it wouldn’t get too hot. In the beginning, we kept running into these people with the cutest dog ever; she was an Austrailian Labradoodle puppy! Some time passed, and we hadn’t seen the people in a while.

The trail followed a beautiful waterfall that contained water from a 1,000-year-old glacier that surrounds Argentiere. There was one point where the path hit huge boulders and a little lookout right next to the waterfall. Brie and I took some of our “famous” jumping pictures. (They’re not actually famous, HAHA)

We soon ran into the people again, and they had said, “Oh this is the wrong way. You have to go back down and up the ski lift trail.” We were then annoyed, not at them, but at the fact that we had walked all this way to have figured out it was the wrong way. 🙁 The people went back down to go the right direction, and we stopped for a food break.

After resting for a bit we decided to keep hiking, but instead of turning around and going the right way my dad decided, “Let’s go up these rocks. Sounds fun!” To classify what “rocks” mean, they were boulders all stacked together up the side of a hill.

After climbing the rocks for about a half an hour, the hill became bare and moss covered (which was not good for us because it was slippery). The worst part of these conditions was that there were spider webs everywhere and of course I was in the front and ran into every single one of them which was not fun at all. Later we passed the rocks and had to climb straight up the slippery, wet hill, which most of us expected because we were on a hike with my father.

Later that day, we finished climbing up the hill and hit the real trail. The trail was a road that went straight up a ski hill. (probably a black diamond or a steeper blue) The path then takes a turn into a single person trail, and wild blueberries were surrounding us.

I climbed into the bushes and got blueberry juice all over my legs and hands! 🙂 (it’s all good though). We probably spent at least an hour there before the people, with the cute dog, caught up to us. We all talked for a while, and they decided to continue, but we stayed back and ate more blueberries. Then the rain started, and we begin to head back home.

Anyways the hike was fun, even though we ended up with scratches all over our legs! 🙂
