In the summer of 2017, we had talked about traveling for a year as a family, but we worried about schooling, sports, family, and friends. We didn’t think that it would ever work out.
A month or so later, we meet up with some friends, Gil and Leona, who had traveled the world when their kids were about the same age as us. They had nothing, but amazing things to say about their experience. We then started to talk about the trip more, but just like before, we dropped the idea and never really thought about it.
In January 2018, I remember riding the three-person chairlift at ski cooper with Amanda and my Mom. I had told her, “Mom, what if we traveled the world for a year?”
From that point on, we continuously got more, and more excited. As a family, we all put in the work of talking with teachers, figuring out school, and seeing if this would actually be something that we’d want to do as a family.
Recently on April 12th, 2018 we had found out that my dad’s work approved us for going on the trip. That Thursday was filled with many mixed emotions. I was freaking out that we had been approved, but at the same time I was worried that my shot at a volleyball career would be ruined and how I might learn the wrong things while homeschooling. In the end, though I knew that this was the right thing for our family and that the experiences that we would get on this trip would be unlike anything else!
I do believe it’s time for another adventure!
